AMERICAN DINER – INDOOROOPILLY

NKB EXPRESS – AMERICAN DINER

NKB Express is part of tycoon TJ Peabody’s NKB Group (named after his popular, but now closed Nantucket Kitchen & Bar), situated across from the Indooroopilly Train Station on the same corner as Bunnings Warehouse.

I’ve always liked this place – it has a relaxed atmosphere (aided in part by the 1950’s styled booth seating and old rock and roll playing softly in the background), is always cool inside and offers great tasting burgers.

The drinks selection and condiments are all American imports, so even familiar sauces or colas are distinct in flavour. A quick look over the menu cements the theme even further: Central Park burger, The Bronx, Mets, Yankees, et al. Most burgers are around the $12 mark.

The Central Park burger

My favourite burger is the Central Park burger, with it’s wagu beef patty, field mushroom and melted swiss cheese, it packs just the right amount of flavour! It’s messy to eat: the burger drips with juices and sauces, as it should.

This is my go-to choice whenever I’m here, though I’m told the other burgers are just as delish.

Side dishes include fries, and the sweet potato fries are especially delightful at NKB Express. They’re huge, light and fluffy and not overcooked.

Menu specials are regularly available, with their buffalo wings being quite popular. NKB is full licensed with a selection of wine, beer and ciders available. Their Hershey’s shakes, such as the Harlem Shake (salted caramel), are a must-try.
