NEON “Asian Street Style” – Restaurant Review

Whilst on the coast with friends, we were looking for a place to grab some take-out to take back to our room, when we came across NEON “Asian Street Style”. As someone who LOVES street food, I was pretty happy we decided to check this place out.

If you’re familiar with the Broadbeach area at all, you’d know there aren’t a lot of Asian street style restaurants around (not like back in Brisbane!)

I was impressed straight away by the interior of the restaurant – wood blended perfectly with glass, metal and neon signs – it gave a fresh and welcoming feeling as you entered the restaurant, and the lighting just added all that more to the atmosphere.

Being able to see your food whilst it was cooking was great too. I’m not sure whether it’s the same for anyone else, but I always feel like I’m ‘involved’ in the cooking of my meal (even though all I’m doing is watching someone else cook my meal for me)… I feel like I’m a part of it, and enjoy the experience even more.

The menu offers a range of meals to choose from dumplings to bao’s (Chinese buns) to chargrilled meals, vendor street style food and more.

The staff were very friendly, and service was exceptional – we did not have to wait long for our food at all, it was all handled rather well and presented to us in under the time I had expected.

A girlfriend and I ordered the Local King Prawn, Pork & Leek Dumplings. They were served steamed with a soy vinaigrette dipping sauce. They were that good that they barely touched the sides going down! I’m not big on dumplings normally, but I do believe they’ve changed my mind about that.

My partner ordered the Chicken Karaage which was cooked in a Japanese batter with light spice & mayo. The photo does not do justice to it (I stole a couple of bites, another very tasty dish).

My girlfriend’s partner chose the Stewed Pork Belly dish. Traditional style, cooked with five spice and soy and served on a bed of rice (I didn’t hear any complaints from him). Again, another photo that doesn’t do justice to the meal (I hadn’t actually set out to do a review when we visited, we were all hungry and just wanted to eat!)

I also quite liked the little cardboard boxes our meals came in, as well as the wooden ‘sporks’ and serviettes (they appealed to the eco-friendly side of me). Excuse the bottom of the box, I’d already consumed my meal prior to taking the pic – hadn’t really planned ahead, hunger came first!

NEON “Asian Street Style” offers an affordable range of dishes to choose from, all of the above cost $10 each and were reasonably filling.

They’re open from 11am-10pm Mon-Thurs & Sun, and 11am-11pm Fri-Sat.

Located at Shop 33 Niecon Plaza, 19 Victoria Ave, Broadbeach QLD.

I recommend checking this place out if you’re ever on the coast, they’re a reasonably new restaurant, having opened up earlier this year – they look very promising and I’ll definitely be ordering from here the next time I’m on the coast (may actually dine-in then!)

What a cool place! I love Chinese food, the dumplings and pork buns are my favorite! Nice that they use eco-friendly packaging too. I wish we had a place like that around here! 🙂

Thanks Joscelyn, I think that’s one of the reasons I loved the place – the eco-friendly packaging! They provide awesome meals too (I’m a lover of street food, so I really enjoyed my meal).
