Cairn Box July 2020

Another month, another collection from the Cairn Box has arrived! I’m really excited to share this month’s box with you – there’s some firm favourites in this collection! Be sure to check out the end of this post for your chance to receive $10 USD off your first box!

If you haven’t seen my earlier review on the June Box (first box I received), it provides a bit of a break down on the costs of the two different kinds of subscription boxes you can receive from Cairn.

The monthly box costs about $41 AUD, plus shipping (as this is an American based subscription box, shipping is free in the States, and the box costs $29.95 USD monthly, with 3-5 full sized outdoor products).

This month’s theme is “Good Taste” and is all about feeding your hunger at camp, and not having to settle for flavourless food eaten from an old pot.

This month we received 4 items in the subscription box, all aimed around the camp site and cooking.

Cairn Scout Newsletter:

The Cairn Scout newsletter provides more information about the products included in the collection, introduces the new UnStacked promo where subscribers can enter into a unique gear auction experience, this month’s Adventure Upgrade (available to USA subscribers only), Cairn Community Feature as well as subscriber perks and a link to ‘Backcountry Chef’ which is full of how-to videos to up your trail meals and backcountry cooking skills!

Let’s start getting into the products included in this month’s collection!

Humangear FlexiBowl: RRP $14.99 USD ($20.60 AUD)

Cairn Box July 2020

There’s actually two products from Humangear added to this month’s collection, a brand that’s new to me, but I’m already in love with them!

The FlexiBowl is ultra lightweight thanks to it’s food-safe silicone design, it’s easy to hold and the concave bottom provides stability on rough surfaces (so you don’t have to worry about it toppling over as can happen with some of the silicone products similar to these out there on the market).

The inward-facing upper section helps to retain heat and prevent spillage, or it can be folded down to create a smaller bowl or easy-to-drink-from cup – how versatile is this bowl!

The high gloss interior makes it super easy to clean, and also have volume markings so campfire cooking is a breeze!

I have quite a few silicone products for camping already, but I already know that I’ll be using this bowl more than some of the other products I have – it feels like it’s a great quality product, and I love that it’s so lightweight and has so many uses (pretty important when you want to pack light and don’t want to carry a lot on you – especially for those who are into backcountry hiking and camping).

Humangear Quattro GoBites: RRP $14.99 USD ($20.60 AUD)

Cairn Box July 2020

Which brings us to the second product from Humangear – the Quattro GoBites is a set of utensils contained in it’s own storage case, with everything you’ll need to enjoy the delicious meals you’re going to make by the campfire.

I wouldn’t even stop there, this would be great to have on hand whenever you’re out and about and stop to get a quick bite to eat on the go.

This nifty lightweight set includes a full sized fork, spoon and set of chopsticks, along with a reusable toothpick!

MONTyBOCA Trailmeals Cookbook: RRP $13.99 USD ($19.23 AUD)

Cairn Box July 2020

I doubt I need to say it again (you all know I’m a big time foodie) – but I’m just loving this pocket sized lil’ cookbook by MONTyBOCA – talk about elevating your meals!

This book comes with a series of cooking and equipment checklists and includes 20 recipes that have been tried and tested by others whilst camping, hiking and RVing/caravaning or van life etc – so you can rest assured that the meals are doable.

There’s no pre-prep or dehydrated food required, everything is fresh and ready in under 30 minutes!

If you’re looking for fast, easy and tasty trail-tested recipes for any outdoor activity, you definitely want to check this book out.

While you’re at it, why not check out Chef Corso’s How-T0 Videos here – you’ll find a host of recipes you can try out for your next outdoor adventure!

Skout Organic – Salted Chocolate Protein Bar: RRP $2.49 USD ($3.42 AUD)

Cairn Box July 2020

The final product included in this month’s Cairn Box is this protein bar by Skout Organic. As with every month, you’ll receive a food product with your collection,

Skout are certified Organic, certified Kosher, vegan, Non-GMO, gluten-free, grain-free, dairy-free, and soy-free – so pretty much perfect for any lifestyle or dietary requirements!

This is the perfect treat for when you’re out on the trail, feeling peckish or just need a boost of energy.

Conclusion:

Given the box costs me $41 AUD (plus shipping) each month, it’s been great to see that it’s sitting around the $60 mark for retail value – it certainly helps that all products are full sized products designed specifically for the outdoors and have been tried and tested before by other adventure seekers and have actual practical use (there’s nothing worse than receiving products that you just won’t use at all).

This month’s collection has a retail value of $46.46 USD ($63.86 AUD), and I know that I’ll get a lot of use out the two humangear products in particular (here’s hoping we get more products from this brand in the future!)

I’m looking forward to trying out some of the recipes in the trail cookbook as well – everything in this month’s collection worked so well together, it’s clear that the Cairn Crew really take into consideration how the collections are curated and how useful the products will be on outdoor adventures.

I’m really happy with this month’s collection, and can’t wait to see what August has in store for us!
